Straight Razor & Strop Work
Restoration. Honing. Education.
Bench-built results for real shavers and collectors. From edge correction and bevel setting to full restorations and strop revival, every piece gets the attention it deserves.
What We Do
Every razor and strop is different. Here's how we approach the three main types of work. Or just tell us the goal and we'll recommend the best route.
Honing & Edge Work
For daily shavers, collectors, and hard-to-fix edges.
- Bevel setting & correction (chips, frowns, uneven wear)
- Multi-stone progression to a comfortable, keen finish
- Final stropping check and shave-ready prep
- Natural & synthetic stones: JNATs, coticules, Arkansas, Naniwa, Shapton
Razor Restoration
Preserve character while bringing back function.
- Rust removal, stain reduction, and corrosion management
- Scale repair, rebuild, re-pin options
- Geometry-conscious work (stamps preserved when possible)
- Antique & vintage specialists: Wade & Butcher, Solingen, Sheffield makers
Strop Restoration
Bring vintage leather back to working condition.
- Deep cleaning and leather conditioning
- Surface refresh for glazed or nicked leather
- Hardware repair and replacement
- Honest assessment: if the leather is spent, we'll tell you
Common Questions
How do I send in a razor for honing or restoration?
Send clear photos (tang stamp, full blade both sides, and any problem areas) along with what you want done using the quote form below. We'll confirm the plan, provide a shipping address, and have it back to you with return shipping.
What types of honing stones do you use?
We use a range of natural and synthetic stones depending on the razor and the goal. This includes Japanese natural whetstones (JNATs) like Ohira and Nakayama, Belgian coticules from Ardennes, translucent Arkansas stones, Naniwa Professional synthetics, and Shapton ceramics. Every razor gets the progression that suits its steel and geometry.
Do you work on antique and vintage straight razors?
Yes, vintage razors are a specialty. Makers like Wade & Butcher, Joseph Rodgers, Dovo Solingen, W. Greaves & Sons, and other Sheffield and German manufacturers. We take extra care to preserve tang stamps, original geometry, and patina when that's what the owner wants.
Can you restore a vintage leather strop?
Absolutely. We clean, condition, and resurface dried-out or damaged leather strops, repair or replace hardware, and get them performing again. If the leather is too far gone, we'll say so honestly.

What Customers Say
Real feedback from shavers and collectors who've sent in work.
Old Tools. Real Work. Modern Results.
Ye'Ole Straight~n~Strop Shop was founded in 2016 with one goal: bring vintage straight razors and classic strops back to life without losing what made them special in the first place.
Some pieces need a careful clean and a true edge. Others need a full rescue: hardware, scales, corrosion management, and a finish that's ready for daily use. The difference is always in the details. Geometry, comfort, and the way the blade behaves on the stone and on the strop.
Whether you're a collector, a daily shaver, or you found grandpa's razor in a drawer, you're in the right place. Mail-in work is welcome from anywhere in the US, and we confirm every plan before major work begins.
